Solar Dryers in Passive Mode: Thermal Performance Evaluation
Abstract
In this study, three solar dryers in a passive flow regime were evaluated for their thermal performance under the environmental conditions of the Colombian Caribbean Coast. In the field, experiments were conducted to determine the thermal efficiency of the structure. The results of field experiments were compared with those that were obtained from a computational simulation. Based on the energy balances in each of the dryer components, the simulation is based on the energy balances of each component. A simulation was carried out using specific open-source software using atmospheric data from the days when field tests were conducted. A consistent relationship is observed between the simulation results and the direct measurement results.
