Load Curtailment in the BVRIT Campus Microgrid System, fed with 440 kWp Decentralized Rooftop Solar PV System
Abstract
This research paper introduces a novel load curtailment mechanism for a Microgrid with integrated photovoltaic (PV) systems, employing MATLAB Simulink and Stateflow. The main objective of load control is to optimize and manage grid-created load while also addressing the Demand-Supply mismatch to ensure the Microgrid's smooth operation. Traditionally, demand response (DR) methods have been utilized in conventional grids, but they are insufficient for achieving rapid responses in today's context, where a significant number of consumers have PV systems installed. Conventional methods like Volt-Var Optimizations are computationally expensive and necessitate low response times; otherwise, grid fluctuations can become excessive. The primary focus of this study was to achieve net-load curtailment on the connected loads of the Microgrid at B V Raju Institute of Technology (BVRIT) Narsapur. Load curtailment was performed on a single day, employing Simulink and Stateflow in MATLAB, in the absence of an Energy Storage System, which would typically be used to smoothen the load curve.
